Royal Palace of Caserta –
The “Italian Versailles”

Are you ready for this adventure with Simply Amalfi?

Don’t miss the chance to visit the splendor of italian Versailles: the Royal Palace of Caserta and its park, treasures of truly incomparable splendor.

Italy’s swansong to the baroque, the colossal Reggia di Caserta began life in 1752 after Charles VII ordered a palace to rival Versailles. Not one to disappoint, Neapolitan architect Luigi Vanvitelli delivered a palace bigger than its French rival. With its 1200 rooms, 1790 windows, 34 staircases and 250m-long facade, it was reputedly the largest building in 18th-century Europe. Be enchanted by the beauty of its interiors and by the magnificence of its exterior.

Stroll in the gardens of the to see the great waterfall and romantic oasis of intricate pathways, exotic flora and pools. The park covers 120 acres, with long avenues and many buildings that can be explored on foot, by bicycle or by carts.

There are other wonders to visit in this area besides the Royal Palace of Caserta

If you’re still fascinated by the hidden history of the area after visiting the Italian Versailles, you might also consider organizing a fabulous day by visiting the Amphitheater where legendary gladiator Spartacus once fought and where he started his famous slave uprising which shook southern Italy for several years.

Located in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, just few minutes away from Caserta, the site was used to build the largest amphitheatre in western Europe after the Colosseum, an extraordinary theatrical venue that could hold up to 60,000 spectators. Originally 44 metres high, the amphitheatre had four floors, built entirely using a stone called “tuff”. In fact the arena was the setting for the scenery and props, the stars and technicians of the shows, ferocious beasts, gladiators and ritual areas.

Otherwise, for an afternoon of retail therapy, why not visit the La Reggia Designer Outlets, with a wide range of over 100 multi-brand as well as boutique stores. The La Reggia outlets are the  perfect place to shop, with reductions of up to 70% all year round, there’s bargains to had for everyone.

    Frequently asked questions:

What type of vehicle will be used for our tour?

We provide our services in comfortable minivans or sedans, depending on availability.

    • For 1–2 guests, we usually use a sedan.
    • For 3–8 guests, we use a minivan.

All our vehicles are air-conditioned, fully licensed, insured, and kept in top condition to make your journey as comfortable as possible.

While we cannot guarantee a specific model or configuration—sometimes changes are necessary due to maintenance, traffic, or other unforeseen circumstances—we always make sure your transfer is carried out in a first-class vehicle. You can relax knowing you’ll enjoy a safe, smooth, and enjoyable ride with all the comforts you need.

Absolutely! All our drivers are professional English-speaking chauffeurs with excellent knowledge of the region, including the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and Naples.
They’re happy to share local insights on history, geography, restaurants, and sightseeing, making your journey not just comfortable, but also fun and full of interesting discoveries.

At the moment, we only offer private tours and private transfers. This means that once you book, the vehicle and the driver are reserved exclusively for you and your group, allowing you to enjoy a personalized, relaxed, and intimate experience—without sharing the tour with other guests.

Our drivers are full of local knowledge and love sharing stories and insights during your ride. Thanks to their years of experience living and driving in the region, you’ll hear fascinating tidbits about the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Naples, and more as you travel comfortably between destinations.

However, Italian law is strict about licensed tour guides, so our drivers cannot provide guided tours outside the vehicle—in towns, museums, or historical sites. For example, during your stop in Positano, your driver will wait for you at the parking area or a pre-agreed meeting point, but cannot escort you around the village.

In short, while your driver is highly knowledgeable and will enrich your journey with local insights, he is not an official guide like those you would hire for sites such as Pompeii or the Colosseum.

Absolutely! All our tours are fully customizable to match your preferences, including stops, duration, and additional experiences such as a lemon/limoncello experience, a wine tour or an archaeological visit. Simply contact us by email to let us know your requests.

It depends on the site or museum. Visit durations are carefully planned to give you enough time to explore, learn, and enjoy the experience at a relaxed pace, while fitting smoothly into the day’s itinerary.
On average, visits last about two hours, though this may vary depending on the site/museum selected. Any differences will be clearly communicated at the time of booking.

Yes. All guided visits inside archaeological sites and museums are conducted by official licensed tour guides. Licensed guides hold an official certification, usually issued by the State, and have completed formal studies in the history, art, and culture of the places you will visit.
Please note that the tour guide and the driver are two different professional roles. While our drivers are highly knowledgeable and share insights during the drive, only licensed guides are authorized to lead tours inside archaeological sites and museums, in accordance with Italian law.

Yes. If you feel that the standard two-hour visit is too long or too short, the duration can be adjusted to better suit your preferences. Please note that the times we suggest are carefully recommended to offer you the best possible experience at each site.
Any requested changes should be communicated at the time of booking, so we can also adapt the rest of the day’s itinerary accordingly.
Please note: Requests for visits longer than the suggested duration may involve additional costs.
